About
Howdy & Haisai. My name is Emma & this blog is my love letter to food – cooking it, serving it, eating it, and sharing it. Major disclaimer: I am not an aspiring lifestyle influencer. In fact, I could not be more opposed to the idea of living through a camera lens or behind a screen. This blog is for my loved ones and kindred spirits sharing in the goal of bringing people together in real life through delicious food – not through social media.
My experience with food has been largely shaped by my Texan and Okinawan heritage. From a childhood eating tamales & brisket for Christmas to visiting my grandmother’s Okinawan restaurant in Houston, I have spent a lifetime studying how food brings people together and enriches our lives. Food is culture.
My mission is fairly simple. I believe that breaking bread with others is the single most important step in community-building. In a time of polarization, a loneliness epidemic, and social media addiction, I want to be conscious about building (and maintaining) connections with the people in my community, one meal at a time.
My husband and I regularly host family & friends for meals, and love to try new restaurants nearby and when we travel (which is a lot!). On this blog, I plan to share the best slices of my life through the meals I get to cook, serve, and eat – and most importantly, the people I get to share them with. I hope you’ll read along & make plans for us to share a meal together soon.
